Raising Sand

Do yourself a favor.
Run, don't walk to um...your computer and buy the cd Raising Sand by Allison Krauss and Robert Plant.

Since I suck at reviewing cds, let me quote the review on Real One's Rhapsody:

"The unexpected and unpredictable collaboration between this Led Zeppelin frontman and a modern bluegrass diva may raise a few eyebrows. But once you put aside your reservations and listen to this truly amazing album, the marriage of Plant and Krauss' voices make more sense than chocolate and peanut butter. As they cover songs by Gene Clark, Sam Phillips, Townes Van Zandt, Mel Tillis, Tom Waits and the Everly Brothers, don't be surprised to find yourself moved or your breath taken away. If Raising Sand doesn't sweep the Grammys, let there be riots in Hollywood."

Unfortunately, the album wasn't released in time to be eligible for this year's Grammys, however a single was released in time and it actually DID win a Grammy. ("Gone, Gone, Gone for best Bluegrass performance). I don't put much stock in the Grammys, but I'm not surprised that it won. It will be interesting to see whether it DOES sweep the Grammys in 2009. I hope it does.

I CANNOT stop listening to a Plant/Page tune called "Please Read the Letter." (Mary! :) I know you love that one too). I love singing along with them.

I haven't been this excited about a cd in a long time.

Check it out!!!

I'll second that. It's super pretty. It makes me think of the bookstore from hell...but it's super pretty.

Will do, Sue... as soon as I buy about 20 other things on my wishlist! (seriously I'll put it on my list ... so if I ever see it at a used record store, I'll pick it up!) (too many other things I want first)... I'll at least give the samples a listen right now!

My goodness!, someone left Robert in the sun too long, he's looking aged!! (suppose he will be knockin on now though)..
Last time I saw him was in concert on his solo career way way back..

Okaaaaay ! I will certainly have to check this out. I have a music night with some friends of mine coming up in early April, and one of the guys loves Alison Krause, so I'll bring it and surprise him with my excellent taste. I haven't heard anything of Robert Palnt's for years, so it'll be interesting for me too.

Those are some lovely photos you've added with your last post too. What a wonderful place. Ah, well, back to the grindstone for Margie.

Hi Sue,

I tried to go to see them to London, but the good tickets were sold very fast, and they are not coming to Spain...:(...They have done a really good job.

Love,

Hi Sue, wow that's some review! Now, I just want to run out and buy it, because when I told Koos, he agreed and said it was amazing, brilliant!

Well, I actually came to say Happy Easter, dear sweet Sue, and I do say it. Hoping that all your Easter bunnies will come bouncing bearing wonderful gifts for the coming year.

Love and hugs Sue, VallyP xx

Dear Sue,

I hope you and the family had a lovely Easter today. I may lay off of Internet for a while (after today!).... (yeah, right!) but I won't be far.

Love, Lucy.

there's another cd to be released in June! ;-)

I heard Rufus W. lives in Berlin (read about it in the NY Times yesterday). It's the city popping with Bohemian-ness or some such, being a whole lot less expensive to live and work as a creative than NYC or London or Paris. Popping.

By the way Ullman was pointing out the comedy of understatement (that everyone in England is alright) and the profound uncomedic energy in praise (the more you praise the more serious the praise becomes). She has a real point, but I also see the American instinct to praise everyone is just a trend. I wonder what's next?

Starting to rain finally after such a long white winter. Yeah the thrum of rain, fingers on the roof tiles thrum. Pat-pat-pitter-pat.

happiness to you,
-ginab

Hi Sue - I see you're as sporadic a blogger as I am much of the time these days. I'm on holidays at the moment so it's a bit easier, but I do miss the regular contact with lovely people like you.

Have you had any more wonderful travels, or are you now spending all your time knee-deep in children? Would love an update on how the job's going.

Cheers,
M.

Hi Sue, I will send Bruce kisses his way from you. Hey, I am going to see Bon Jovi tomorrow night too. I don't if you like them or not.

I am sorry you are in a funk. I hope that turns around for you soon, I wish I knew what to say to help. I'll see if I can get a little video of Bruce when I am there on my digi, and post it on my blog for you. :)
